STAFF

Your experience begins with our physician and staff...

Dr. Mark Boerner has been Idaho's eyelid specialist for over 15 years.  A board-certified oculofacial plastic surgeon, he completed his training at the University of Texas and completed a fellowship at the University of California at San Francisco.  He has performed over 10,000 surgical procedures over the course of his practice.  A Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (aao.org) and the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (cosmeticsurgery.org), Dr. Boerner has a unique aesthetic sense to help cosmetic patients maximize their return on investment.  He lectures nationally and is the only physician in Idaho certified by the maker of Botox Cosmetic (botox.com) and Juvederm (juvederm.com) to teach physicians proper injection techniques.  In addition to cosmetic surgery, Dr. Boerner's practice involves surgical management of tumors, trauma, and disorders of the face and eyelid.  He has completed a medical mission in Honduras and frequently treats refugees in the Boise community.

Dr. Lee Carter is the Center's optometrist, and provides management of eyelid disorders and eye health exams.  He studied at the Ohio State University College of Optometry in Columbus, where he worked with retinal, corneal, and ocular health specialists throughout all of central and southern Ohio.  Dr. Carter currently is a member of the American Optometric Association and is actively involved in the Idaho Optometric Association.

Our well-trained staff helps facilitate your office visits -- they are friendly, capable, and caring and can answer any questions related to billing, procedures or scheduling.  Glenice Davis and Mary Jane Buhler, our surgical technicians and longest standing employees, schedule and assist the doctors with eye examinations and a variety of cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries.  Heather Anderson is a certified surgical technician providing cosmetic consultations on skin care, and performs Obagi Blue Peels and Intense Pulse Light treatments. In addition, she performs cosmetic treatments with Botox and tissue fillers (all procedures are performed under direct physician supervision as required by Idaho law).  Marcy Carlson is our skin care specialist who offers skin care services, such as microdermabrasion and Colorescience mineral make-up application.  She has experience with post-operative and camouflage makeup and also distributes and consults on Obagi and Epionce skincare products.  She also directs the optical service and assists in scheduling.  Vana Nelson is our office manager who focuses on day-to-day management and patient/insurance billing.  Jennifer Bleymaier is our receptionist who assists with billing and front office activities.

PROCEDURES

At Northwest Eye and Laser Center, Dr. Boerner offers cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid surgery, wrinkle prevention/reversal procedures, skin rejuvenation, procedures for eye socket/tear duct disorders, and general ophthalmology services.  These areas of expertise are described below. 

Cosmetic and Reconstructive Eyelid and Facial Surgery...

Blepharoplasty - As we age, eyelid skin stretches and muscle tone weakens.  Our upper eyelids often begin to droop and lower eyelid bags begin to fill in.  The aging process of the eyelids can make us appear tired or unfriendly.  In advanced cases, our field of vision may be impaired.  Blepharoplasty is eyelid surgery to remove excess skin and fat.  This surgery can be performed on both the upper and on the lower eyelids and can improve a person's vision as well as enhance the appearance of youth and vitality. Dr. Boerner has conducted thousands of blepharoplasties over the course of his career and has an aesthetic eye.  The photos show the difference blepharoplasties can make after surgery.

Short Incision Facelift  - Best suited for people in their 30s through 50s who have good skin tone, but are starting to see some laxity in their lower face around the jaw.  Before/after photos show reduction of jowls, sharpening of the jaw line and tightening of the neck.  Also called a mini-facelift, this surgery enhances key facial areas with less risk, less stress, and shorter recovery time than standard facelift surgery. 

 
Endoscopic Forehead Lift - The forehead lift is designed to smooth the forehead, raise the brows, and minimize frown lines.  The impacts of time and gravity are visibly reduced.  The before and after photos show results of direct and endoscopic forehead and brow lifts.  At Northwest Eye and Laser Center, Dr. Boerner personally performs all cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid and facial surgeries. These surgeries can be combined with other procedures to maximize aesthetic results, such as wrinkle prevention techniques, laser skin resurfacing, chemical peels, neck liposuction, and fat transfer to the face. 


Fat Transfers - Another procedure used to rejuvenate the mid-face is transfer of a patient's own fat to areas that have lost volume due to the aging process.  Dr. Boerner uses this surgery to smooth and repair wrinkles and creases on the face, and to elevate depressions which can exacerbate the appearance of lower eyelid bags.  The combination of fat transfer and blepharoplasties can produce amazing results.

Wrinkle Prevention/Reversal Procedures...

Botox Injections (botox.com) - Botox Cosmetic is a natural purified protein that functions by relaxing overactive muscles that cause wrinkles to form.  When properly used, Botox Cosmetic can make a dramatic change in appearance.  Dr. Boerner is the only Idaho member of the Botox National Advisors Board, and has the experience and know-how to get great results.  Botox works well on crows feet, laugh lines, lip lines, forehead wrinkles -- as shown in the before/after photos. 





Filler Injections - Fillers are used to smooth out folds and fill in wrinkles.  They can also be used to enhance lips and other areas by adding volume.  Fillers such as Perlane and Restylane (restylaneusa.com), Juvederm (juvederm.com), Radiesse (radiesse.com), and Artefill (artefill.com) can result in smoother, younger looking skin.  Artefill is different from temporary injectable wrinkle fillers. The unique microspheres in Artefill are not absorbed by the body and provide the support your skin needs for natural, long lasting results.  Before and after photos for Restylane are to the left, Artefill below. 




Skin Rejuvenation...

NEW!! Fractionated CO2 Laser Resurfacing - With our new fractionated laser, treated columns are surrounded by undamaged tissue.  Most of the skin surface is left intact and healing is complete in as little as four to seven days.  This laser is ideal for mild to moderate wrinkles and areas of irregular pigmentation.  The fractionated CO2 laser can be used to treat isolated areas of the face and is even safe for more tender areas such as the neck, chest, and hands.

Ablative CO2 Laser Resurfacing - Ablative resurfacing reduces medium and deep wrinkles associated with aging/sun-damaged skin (also reduces the appearance of acne scars).  This involves removing the epidermis and injuring the dermis in a controlled fashion.  After a two-week healing process, marked reduction in even the deepest wrinkles is apparent.   







Intense Pulse Light Treatment - A full spectrum of intense light is delivered to the skin to treat hyperpigmented areas (brown spots) as well as superficial vascular lesions such as spider vessels and red patches.  This treatment requires minimal downtime and can be peformed without injections or intravenous sedation.

Procedures for Eye Socket/Tear Duct Disorders...

Dr. Boerner sees patients from around the intermountain west for problems such as eye socket tumors and trauma, as well as blockages of the tear drainage system. 

General Ophthalmology...

Both Dr. Boerner and Dr. Carter address medical eye problems such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration.  Dr. Carter performs routine ocular examinations and lens fittings.  Northwest Eye and Laser Center has an optical shop to provide our patients with a variety of traditional and contemporary eyeglass frames and sunglasses.

POLICIES

Insurance.  Northwest Eye and Laser Center requires first time patients to pay at the time of their visit.  We will submit your charges to your insurance company, so please bring your insurance card with you.  If your insurance requires a pre-approval or referral, please be sure this is addressed before the time of your appointment.

Financing.  Northwest Eye and Laser Center offers Care Credit to those patients who choose to finance their procedures in advance of surgery/procedures (carecredit.com).  Care Credit offers affordable options to cover the cost of surgery. 

Cancellation.  Please note that appointments missed without a 24 hour advanced notice will be charged $50.00.

FORMS

Please download, print, and complete the patient information sheet and a medical history form prior to your appointment and give them to the front desk when you arrive. If a surgery at Eagle Eye Surgery Center is planned, please download, print, and complete that form as well.  This will shorten the paper processing part of the visit.
